To export Kraken transaction history, open the Document Center in Kraken or the Statements and Tax Center in Kraken Pro. You can generate account statements, balance snapshots, trade exports, and ledger exports; the right choice depends on whether you need executed trades or the broader movement of funds.
Choose the correct Kraken export type
| Export | What it provides | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Account statement | A readable account record for a selected period or statement interval | You need a general document or PDF statement |
| Trades | Detailed execution information for margin and non-margin trades | You need fills, pairs, prices, or trade-level details |
| Ledger | Deposits, withdrawals, trades, fees, and other balance-changing entries | You need a broader transaction history for reconciliation or tax software |
| Balances | A snapshot of balances at a particular date, with fiat equivalents where available | You need holdings at a point in time rather than every transaction |
A trade export is not necessarily a complete account history. Deposits, withdrawals, staking-related entries, adjustments, and fees may be represented in the ledger rather than as standalone trades.
How to export Kraken transaction history
Kraken web
- Sign in to Kraken through the official website.
- Select your name or profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Choose Documents to open the Document Center.
- In Exports, select the option to create an export.
- Choose Account Statement, Trades, Ledger, or Balances.
- Set the required dates and any available asset, pair, or field filters.
- Select CSV or PDF where the choice is offered, then generate the request.
- Wait until the download icon becomes available and save the file.
Kraken Pro web
- Sign in to Kraken Pro and open the profile menu.
- Select Statements or the relevant Tax Center option.
- Choose Export statement.
- Select the export type and its required date filters.
- Generate the request and monitor its status in the on-demand statements list.
- Download the file when processing is complete.
Kraken says on-demand exports can take from a few minutes up to a week to process. The current Document Center guidance also states that generated exports remain available for 14 days, so download the file promptly and store it safely.
Kraken ledger history versus trade history
Use Trades when the question is specifically about executed orders and trade details. Use Ledger when you need entries that changed balances, including deposits, withdrawals, trade-related movements, and fees. Many tax and reconciliation workflows require both or prefer ledger data because it describes more than executed trades alone.
How to build a complete export set
- Create a ledger export for the entire required period.
- Create a trade export for the same start and end dates.
- If a date-specific holdings record is required, add a balance export.
- Download an account statement when a fixed-layout document is requested.
- Compare the earliest and latest timestamps and retain all untouched originals.
If you used other exchanges, wallets, or Kraken products, repeat the record collection for those sources. One Kraken file cannot document transactions recorded only elsewhere.
Troubleshooting a Kraken export
The request is still queued
Do not create repeated identical requests immediately. Kraken states that processing may take up to a week. Check the existing request status before submitting another export.
The download disappeared
Generated exports are available for a limited period—currently 14 days according to Kraken’s help center. Create a new request if the previous download window expired.
The CSV is empty
Confirm that the selected dates contain transaction activity. Selecting a balance date instead of the dates on which transactions occurred is a common cause of empty exports.
The file shows unexpected amounts
Regional spreadsheet settings can misread decimal points. Do not save over the file. Follow our guide for a Kraken CSV that will not open or shows incorrect numbers.
Tax documents are not visible
Kraken notes that the Tax Center or tax-document option may not appear when no tax document is available for the account. An export of transaction history can still be generated for recordkeeping, but it is not automatically a substitute for a specific official form.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Kraken export take?
Kraken says requests may complete in a few minutes but can take up to a week. Large ranges and system demand can affect timing.
How long is the export available?
Kraken’s current Document Center instructions say generated exports remain available for 14 days.
Should I export trades or ledger history for taxes?
The required file depends on the software and purpose. Ledger history is broader, while trade history focuses on executions. Follow the importer’s requirements and retain both originals when uncertain.
Can I export Kraken history as PDF?
Some Document Center records offer PDF or CSV. CSV is usually appropriate for data imports; PDF is better for a fixed-layout statement. Options depend on the selected export.
